Let’s Be Honest: Reaching Out is the Hardest Part.
Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, managing addiction, or just feeling the weight of "keeping it together," it’s completely normal to feel a bit daunting to start this process. If you’re feeling nervous, skeptical, or just plain overwhelmed—you’re in the right place.
I believe that transparency is the first step toward trust. Below are some of the most common questions I get, but please know that no question is too small, too "weird," or too technical.
If you’d rather chat through your specific concerns or logistical hurdles, I’m always happy to discuss them during a free 15-minute consult.
The Nitty-Gritty
Everything you need to know about starting your therapy journey with Inner Revolution.
What Happens
-
What do we even talk about in the first session?
It’s mostly just "getting to know you", better understanding what your needs are and how I can help, going over some housekeeping, and for you to see if you actually like my personality and approach.
-
How long is a session?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes long.
-
How long does this take?
This is different for everyone, and would depend on your personal needs. Some people come for a very specific reason or goal and once it's resolved/achieved stop, while others engage in therapy continuously as part of how they care for themselves.
-
How often do I have to come?
Again this is dependant on your needs, and we can collaborate on what works best for you. I usually recommend once a week or bi-weekly to start and space out sessions as things progress. Therapy can be on a "as needed" basis .
-
How do I start?
Just book a free 15-minute intro call. It’s a zero-pressure way for us to meet, talk about what’s going on, and see if the dynamic is right. No commitment, no paperwork—just a quick chat to see if I’m the right fit for you.
The Logistics & Fees
-
How much is this going to cost me?
A standard 50-minute session is $160.
-
Do you take insurance?
I do not take insurance directly. You pay for the session upfront, and I’ll give you a detailed receipt that you can send to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Because I’m a Registered Social Worker (RSW), most insurance plans in Canada cover my services. Before we start, I definitely recommend giving your provider a quick shout to confirm they cover Registered Social Workers—that way, there are no surprises.
-
What forms of payment do you take?
Currently I am accepting e-transfer or your credit card can be billed through the JaneApp.
-
What if I have to cancel?
Life happens, and sometimes you need to shift things around. I just ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Because that spot is reserved specifically for you, sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice (or missed entirely) will be charged the full session fee. This isn't about being "mean"—it’s just how I keep my practice sustainable and fair to other clients on the waiting list.
-
Can we do this over video?
Yes, absolutely. I offer virtual sessions to anyone living anywhere in British Columbia. As long as you’re in BC, we can connect.
Is Therapy For Me?
-
What if I don't have a "huge" problem?
You don’t need to be in the middle of a total breakdown to deserve support. You wouldn't wait for your car engine to explode before getting an oil change, right? Therapy is just as much for the "simmering" stuff as it is for the "boiling over" stuff. If you’re feeling a little more tired than usual, a bit more irritable with your partner, or just "blah" about a life change—that’s reason enough. If it’s weighing on your mind, it’s big enough to talk about.
-
Is everything I say actually private?
Absolutely. I use the Jane App, which is a high-level, secure platform designed specifically for healthcare to keep your data encrypted and private. There are only a few extreme legal "must-tells" where I’m required to break confidentiality—like if there’s an immediate risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, or if a child is in danger—but we’ll go over those details clearly in our first session so you know exactly where the line is.
-
What if its awkward and I don't know what to say?
Don’t worry—that’s exactly what I’m here for. You don’t need a script or a "top ten" list of problems; I’ll lead the way with questions to help us find a rhythm together. If things get quiet or you feel stuck, we’ll just pivot or sit with it until the next thought comes—there’s truly no "wrong" way to have the conversation.
-
Do I have to lie on a couch?
No. It’s just a conversation in comfortable chairs (or virtually).
Working Together
-
Who do you work with?
I work with adults (18+) across BC. Whether you’re trying to find your footing in your 20s or redefining what life looks like at 60, I’m here to help you navigate it.
-
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, please. Service animals are always welcome, and I’m lucky enough to work out of a dog-friendly office, so your pup is invited too. Just give me a heads-up before our session so I can make sure the space is ready for them!
-
Can you help me with my specific situation?
I work with a wide range of life challenges and mental health/addiction concerns, you can find the full list on my Services page. If your situation feels a bit unique, feel free to reach out for a consult. We can talk it through and see if we’re a good match before you commit to a full session.
-
What if we’re not the right fit?
Honestly? That’s okay. Research shows that the "click" you have with your therapist is one of the biggest factors in how much you’ll actually get out of it. If you feel like our styles don't mesh, or you just don't feel that connection, don't worry about hurting my feelings. I won't take it personally. In fact, if we aren’t the right match, I’m happy to help you find another RSW or therapist in BC who might be a better fit for what you need. My goal is to get you the right support, even if it isn't with me.
